The Alhambra Theatre is the venue for opera, musicals and drama, while the Theatre In The Mill provides a stage for the local university’s drama group, new works, physical theatre and small scale touring companies.
St George’s Concert Hall has a busy schedule that includes big-name comedy nights and pop concerts, children’s theatre, music and variety, plus classical concerts.
Mainstream films are screened at the Odean and at Cineworld but the latter also shows Bollywood and art-house productions. The Imax at NMPFT is Britain’s largest screen. Two film festivals take place in March and September each year.
The 1853 gallery at Salts Mill contains Europe’s largest collection of work by David Hockney who was born in Bradford while Cartwright Hall displays 19th and 20th century British and French paintings, and decorative artworks from South Asia. Gallery II has regular art exhibitions and Bradford Art Exchange displays work by local artists.
